Wine Dinner Featuring Vinho da Talha
We are delighted to announce that a very special wine dinner, featuring the Portuguese wines of Herdade do Rocim, will be held at Club Lusitano.
As part of the wine dinner, Club Lusitano welcomes Pedro Ribeiro, the Vinho da Talha Wine Maker from Herdade do Rocim, who will speak on Vinho da Talha. Vinho da Talha, the oldest wine making tradition in Portugal, and unique to the Lower Alentejo, will make it’s debut in Hong Kong at the Club’s wine dinner.
Most families in the Alentejo region, more precisely in Cuba, Vidigueira, and Vila de Frades, have clay amphora in their garages, called “Talha” in Portuguese, a tradition that has been preserved for more than 2000 years since Roman times. Herade do Rocim was the first Portuguese winery to bottle wines made with amphorae; previously, they were consumed by locals dipping a container into the talha.
The proud and unique tradition of making Amphora wine, or Vinho da Talha as it is commonly known, will be presented by Portugal to UNESCO on January 21st for consideration to UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Don’t miss the chance to be one of the first to taste Vinho da Talha, and learn about it’s winemaking process!
